Built as a replica of a turn of the century schooner, this project was built on a dirt lot just east of Carson City.  Check out the following pictures to see why our original estimated load and move schedule of 7-10 days actually took 3 weeks!

Upon arrival in Moundhouse NV, we unloaded some equipment and retired to Carson City to find a hotel for the week's stay.  Vera Cruz is a newly built replica of a turn-of-the-century schooner.  She's 100' long, 16' wide,  17' high, and weighs 95 tons.

As we slept, winds from the west blew over Lake Tahoe, picked up moisture, and distributed a 30-mile-wide helping of snow around our project.  This phenomenon, called the 'lake effect', went on for 3 days!

Well, the first thing we beach-boys from sunny southern California did, was make a trip to the store for some snow gear.  Then we set-out to see if we could find our buried tools and equipment.

For the next 10 days, we had to contend with 6 inches of talcum-powder-consistency mud on the sunny side of the boat, and 6 inches of ice on the shady side.

With progress slowed to a crawl, we hired 3 welding crews to help fabricate the steel-framework cradle needed for placement of our dollies, and support of the boat.

Gil is working on dolly installation at the bow. Maintaining our footing was one of our biggest problems in either ice or mud.
